Serving Kenyan Deaf Football to competitively perform on the world’s sporting events
Social Impact of Deaf Football
Getting new football community members up to speed is beneficial for everyone — the community conversations become more engaging, and the level of conversation has more depth. In the process of asking and answering questions, the community becomes stronger and fosters friendships
Football has a lot of power to change things in life among the Deaf Kenyans, not just in my life, but in wider society. Football brings everyone together, for instance by playing football sometimes it’s the Deaf versus Deaf and Deaf versus hearing thus the more they play the more the interaction and building inclusivity and spirit of acceptance as being a part of a member of society in general, it brings smiles to people’s faces, sometimes we engage in this game during a very sad moment to commemorate the lost ones or a calamity thus a consolation to put happiness back to those affected, it brings races or tribes together and more, we don’t have a Deaf tribe though we have Deaf community with regional and geographical diversity thus through football we emphasize on bringing various regions together, while doing so, we also be able to get acquainted with various Sign Language variations. Football is a symbol that means that everyone can- at the same time, compete and live together.
Deaf Football acts as the eye-opener of the hearing wider society regarding understanding DEAF ABILITY (Deaf can do everything, like hearing), thus catalyzing the change of attitude towards Deaf within the wider community.
